Sara Arteaga September Mood Board Challenge – Jot Magazine

Hello! I was checking out the gorgeous Jot Magazine website when I came across this Mood Board Challenge. I love the color combination, but it is one I rarely use, so I was more than glad to give it a go.

¡Hola! Estaba navegando por la increíble página de Jot Magazine cuando me tope con este reto basado en un mood board. Me encantan esos colores, pero realmente nunca los uso, por eso decidí intentarlo. 

The photo I chose is of me, wearing a red dress that I thought would compliment well the layout.  I used papers in blue, aqua, red, and black, with polka dots, flowers and an «ikat  pattern.

Apart from the colors, what I really wanted to use where the flowers, so I cut some in different papers just by hand, trying to give them a «messy look». Some watercolor splatters ended the look.

La foto que escogí es una donde salgo yo usando un vestido rojo que pensé combinaría muy bien con el layout. Use papeles azules, turquesa rojo y negro, con puntos, flores y un patron similar al ikat. 

Además de los colores, lo que realmente quería usar fueron las flores. Corte algunas a mano libre, tratando de que se vieran un poco desordenadas. Añadí algunas gotas de acuarela como toque final.

Cupcakes!

I love to bake. I love the smell in the kitchen while the oven is on, love breaking apart a freshly baked muffin, love decorating and of course I love eating my baked goods. I have lots of photos of what I do, so sometimes I scrap about them.

Me encanta hornear. Me encanta el olor en la cocina cuando el horno está prendido, romper un pan recién horneado, decorar y por supuesto me encanta comer lo que hornee. Tengo muchas fotos de lo que he hecho, y en ocasiones me gusta usarlas.

For this layout I used three photos of my cupcakes with bright colors. I watercolored the background and then layered different pattern papers under each one.

Utilicé tres fotos de mis cupcakes con colores brillantes. Decoré el fondo con acuarela y después puse capas de diferentes papeles debajo de cada foto. 

Some enamel dots in yummy colors and a watercolored doily completed the look.

Bolitas de esmalte en colores dulces y una blonda pintada con acuarela completaron el proyecto.

I love how it turned, hope you liked it too.

Using a Mood Board // Usando imágenes de Inspiración

As part of a crop challenge, we were instructed to use a mood board to create our layout. Here it is:

Como parte de un reto de scrap teníamos que basarnos en este mood board como inspiración para crear un layout:

I love this mood board! I was inspired by pretty much everything: butterflies, bright colors, stripes, water color, black and white accents…all of it. Here is what I did:

¡Me encantó! Todo me inspiró: mariposas, los colores brillantes, las rayas, acuarelas, los acentos blanco y negro… ¡todo! Esto es lo que hice:

I had so much fun doing it. I added water color splashes on my white cardstock. I chose black and white papers to add the contrast, and I specifically chose a striped one.

I added some butterflies and striped sequins to finish the look.

Me divertí mucho haciéndolo. Use acuarelas en mi cartulina blanca. Busqué papeles en blanco y negro para añadir contraste, y en específico use uno rayado. 

Añadí algunas cuantas mariposas y lentejuelas rayadas para terminar.

And finally I cut a We R Memory Keepers card with this saying, which I think goes well not only with the colors, but with our photo, that is of us on a regular day 🙂

Finalmente recorte una tarjeta de We R Memory Keepers que dice «hay belleza en lo aburrido» que no solo quedaba bien con los colores y estilo, si no que también quedaba bien con nuestra foto, que es de nosotros en un día cualquiera. 

With Mom // Con Mamá

I wanted to play with some mixed media and add texture to my layout. I started with some white cardstock. I mixed some gelatos with gesso, creating a pale yellow color. I used the screen that came in the June Messy Box to add the «i love you» background. Then, using the wrapping paper technique I added some watercolor splashes here and there.

Quería jugar un poco con diferentes técnicas para añadir textura. Empecé con cartulina blanca. Mezclé gelatos con un poco de gesso para crear un color amarillo pálido. Después usando la malla de serigrafía que venía incluida en la Messy Box estampé el fondo. Le añadí color con mis acuarelas y la técnica de la envoltura de papel. 

Here is a closeup of the background texture. I think it looks pretty cool, I love the messy look.

Aquí hay un acercamiento de la textura. Me gusta mucho, me encanta que se ve un poco sucio y desordenado 

I layered some papers with rough, ripped edges, to add some extra texture. I definitely like mixing bold colors and patterns.

Acomodé varios papeles en capas, y les rasgué la orillas para añadir textura extra a mi layout. Me encanta mezclar colores brillantes y motivos diferentes.

For this layout I chose a watercolored paper from the Wildflower Carta Bella Collection. I also added some black and white papers from the Amy Tangerine Plus One 6 x 6 paper pad. I added some color using my water colors, just a bit,here and there.

Para este layout utilicé un papel de la colección Wildflower de Carta Bella. También usé unos papeles de al libretita 6 x 6 de la colección Plus One de Amy Tangerine. Les puse un poquito de color con mis acuarelas. 

I cut some rectangles of the different papers and decided they would look good on both corners, in a patchwork – like style.

Corté rectángulos con los diferentes papeles y los acomodé en las esquinas superior e inferior, como collage. 

For embellishments I decided on some sequins and flower ephemera. I used some sparkly pink thickers that are super shiny.

Para decorar use lentejuelas y flores de cartón. Y escogí unas letras rosas con diamantinas que brillan mucho. 

We danced at our Wedding // Bailamos en nuestra boda

I love scrapping 8.5 x 11 size layouts. We live in a tiny apartment and although I love my 12 x 12 albums, it is definitely easier to store my 8.5 x 11 ones.

This photo is from our first dance as husband and wife. It is black and white, but has an orangey hue, which is why I picked this warm papers.

Me encanta trabajar con medida tamaño carta. Vivimos en un mini departamento, por lo que a pesar de que me encantan mis álbumes 12 x 12, definitivamente es mucho más fácil guardar las carpetas tamaño carta. 

Esta foto es de nuestro primer baile como esposos. Es blanco y negro… pero más bien tiene tonos anaranjados, por lo que escogí papeles cálidos. 

This layout was part of a crop challenge, and we had to use a sketch they provided us, which was very simple, with squares of patterned paper and the photo on top. I used white cardstock, Amy Tangerine papers and alphas, some sequins and some drops of golden acrylic paint.

Este layout fue parte de un reto crop, y teníamos que utilizar un boceto que nos dieron, que era bastante sencillo: cuadrados de diferentes papeles y la foto arriba. Utilicé cartulina blanca y papeles y alfabeto de Amy Tangerine, algunas lentejuelas y gotas de pintura acrílica color dorado. 

I love the striped sequins, they are from Messy Box.

Me encantan las lentejuelas rayadas. Venían en la Messy Box. 

Aren’t those tiny shoes lovely? We bought them in Japan! So cute! And I love this see-through alphas from Amy Tangerine.

¿A poco no están increíbles esos mini zapatitos? ¡Los compramos en Japón, me encantan! Y que decir de las letras transparentes de Amy Tangerine.
